THE OUTDOORS ARE US

MY HISTORY

The outdoors are a passion of mine and I grew up between Coffins Bay (near Port Lincoln) and Port Augusta over in South Australia.  In Coffin Bay I lived in the middle of the national park (Father is a ranger) and spend a lot of time on my grandparents farm.  We regularly went on 4wd expeditions, camping and fishing throughout Coffins Bay National Park.  The Flinders Ranges were also a popular spot for our family with very regular walks through Wilpena Pound, Alligator Gorge and Devils Peak along with 4wd trips though the station country.

During my years in Port Augusta I got into mountain biking, then moved to Adelaide for University and studied Product Design and Engineering.  While at university I raced sporadically (XC/Enduro) and guided rides at the Melrose Fat Tyre Festival and mentored students from Prince Alfred College at the Kona Dirty Weekend 24hr XC Race.  Then I got distracted by film making and photography.  This lead to shooting Crankworx Rotorua and a full time adventure film-making career with clients spanning Australia and New Zealand.

I currently follow work between Australia and New Zealand, spending the majority of my time around Christchurch.  Outdoor adventure and mountain biking videos are my favourites and I’m premiering my latest Bikerafting film at the NZ Mountain Film Festival very soon.

Encouraging more people to spend time outdoors motivates me to work with communities and people to spread their stories through film and photos.

POTENTIAL CONTENT EXAMPLES FROM THE WEB

This video from the Sail and Life Training Organisation is an excellent example of how adventure film-making can be used to showcase the experience on offer at an organisation like William Pike Challenge Award

Videos like this one are a powerful way of combining graphics and emotion to communicate messages.  This example could use faster cuts and a more upbeat feel,  although it give a general feel of the style.

PROJECTS WE ARE PROUD OF

PHOTO: STOCK

Our first Bikepacking film.  Filmed over a 320km journey through the New Zealand Alps.  This film presented us with new challenges to overcome.  With no preconceived story line,  we developed the video concept as we encountered new situations and found new limits to our own bodies

SPOKE MAGAZINE PHOTOS

Spoke Magazine is considered to be the pinnacle of mountain bike photography in New Zealand.  We have had images published in the 'Gallery' section.  See the third image down at the link to the right.

As one of the premiere mountain bike components brands,  Raceface requested a shoot in Queenstown, New Zealand.  We loved meeting Remi, Jesse and ALN and shooting with them.
