NELSON
ADVENTURE FILM PROPOSAL
PHOTO: CHRISTCHURCH
INTRODUCTION
Nelson has some of the top mountain biking in New Zealand. However, it has fallen to the wayside of other places like Kaitaitai as it is not seen as a final destination for the entire family.

We propose working with local council and businesses to create video content that showcases both the trail network and family activities to establish the city as a destination inclusive of the entire family.
THE TO LOCAL COMMUNITY
Nelson currently misses lots of local Mountain Bike tourism as it lacks the 'family destination' of places like Able Tasman and Kaiterteri.

A video (series) showcasing trails for all abilities, and other family oriented activities can help establish Nelson as a destination for the entire family.
THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY
As one of the most prestigious race series in the Mountain Bike world, the Enduro World Series event to be held in Nelson has been recently cancelled due to COVID 19.

The mountain bike world has now heard of Nelson having seen both EWS press releases for the EWS race and its subsequent cancellation. A video (series) pushing the EWS race trails showcasing what the world is missing is a great way to capitalise on the international interest in Nelson. This will reinforce the trail network's suitability for future events and capitalise on the massive interest in EWS racing.

Derby, Tasmania is a perfect example having been on the brink of death before the EWS race a few years ago. Derby then capitalised on the attention from the racing with high quality video content cementing itself as one of the top international destinations for riders all over the world. Its quite popular with New Zealand riders too.
OUR HISTORY IN NELSON
Filmed as an updated version to the film on the right, this was made a few years ago to showcase our developing filmmaking skills.
Filmed early on in my filmmaking career, this film blew up on social media quickly gathering thousands of views and hundreds of comments.
It helped establish Nelson as a great place to ride in New Zealand.
TRAILS AND MAINTAINANCE PHOTO LIBRARY
Over the last few years we have assisted Mountain Bike Ashburton put together a library of quality photos from around the trail to use on the website and grant applications.

TIMELINE
We currently have an opening in our schedule mid-October onwards after returning from Rotorua and other filming projects on the north island.

We would anticipate spending between 2-4 weeks on location in Nelson depending on talent availability, budget and final project scope.

Project budget and scope allowing, we would aim to edit the project as we shot each location/scene.
TALENT
Its anticipated that Gravity Nelson will assist with the talent and riders that will appear in the film.

We also have access to Ethan Rose (Christchurch based) who will have returned from representing New Zealand on the world mountain bike stage.
TRANSPORT
VAN
We have a 4wd High Top Hiace Van that we use as a mobile office and accomodation.
E-BIKE
We have a Giant Reign E-bike that can assist us carrying camera gear around the trails.
ACCOMODATION DURING FILMING
We anticipate parking our van at a friend's property throughout the duration of filming. This would keep the cost of accommodation to a minimum.
EXAMPLES FROM AROUND THE WEB
I love this film about Downieville:
Dirt Magic | From Dying Mining Town to Mountain-Bike Mecca
Patagonia Films presents “Dirt Magic,” a @tetongravity and @freehubmag film documenting Downieville, CA’s journey from dying mining town to mountain-bike mecca. Inspired by a desire to save their home trails, shaped by a grassroot organization’s unintentional stewardship, and fueled by the sport’s rowdiest festival, Downieville’s newest dirt miners are using that reputation to create a model community for struggling mountain towns across the globe—and it all started with a van, a chainsaw, and a few maxed-out credit cards.
THE OUTDOORS ARE US
MY HISTORY
The outdoors are a passion of mine and I grew up between Coffins Bay (near Port Lincoln) and Port Augusta over in South Australia. In Coffin Bay I lived in the middle of the national park (Father is a ranger) and spend a lot of time on my grandparents farm. We regularly went on 4wd expeditions, camping and fishing throughout Coffins Bay National Park. The Flinders Ranges were also a popular spot for our family with very regular walks through Wilpena Pound, Alligator Gorge and Devils Peak along with 4wd trips though the station country.

During my years in Port Augusta I got into mountain biking, then moved to Adelaide for University and studied Product Design and Engineering. While at university I raced sporadically (XC/Enduro) and guided rides at the Melrose Fat Tyre Festival and mentored students from Prince Alfred College at the Kona Dirty Weekend 24hr XC Race. Then I got distracted by film making and photography. This lead to shooting Crankworx Rotorua and a full time adventure film-making career with clients spanning Australia and New Zealand.

I currently follow work between Australia and New Zealand, spending the majority of my time around Christchurch. Outdoor adventure and mountain biking videos are my favourites and I’m premiering my latest Bikerafting film at the NZ Mountain Film Festival very soon.

Encouraging more people to spend time outdoors motivates me to work with communities and people to spread their stories through film and photos.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
I already have a handlebar sponsor (new brand looking for publicity) that will contribute $2000 to the project. I am currently working on product shot and XC photos for them, and they were pretty keen to get on board when i pitched them the project.
They can also assist with funding Ethan Rose to spend time in Nelson filming with the project.
They are looking for logos and product placement, ability to shoot photos and videos across the Nelson MTB network in the future without location fees and the ability to request additional edits (priced separately) of the footage to use as advertising in the future.

Other sponsors are welcome to come on board.
